POSITIONS:
The two teams bouting send five players each onto the track:
- Pivot (wears striped helmet cover)
- 3 Blockers that form the pack
- Jammer (wears a star helmet cover and is the scoring skater)
The Pack
The pack is formed by the pivot and the blockers from both teams. In a pack all players face anti-clockwise. The track has two lines marked across the track (30 feet apart). These two lines are the pivot line and the jammer line around which the pack builds its formation.
Pivot's line up on the pivot line and all blockers must line up behind them in any order they choose.
The Jammers
The two jammers are not considered part of the pack and are positioned on the jammer line 30 feet behind the pivot line.
Penalties
Penalties are awarded for any action that affects the safety of the game in a negative way. When a penalty is given, the ref gives one long whistle.
